Cybersecurity Engineer J7

Job Summary
 

The cybersecurity engineer will support the Joint Training and Experimentation Network (JTEN) at the Joint Staff J7 Compound in Suffolk. The Joint Training and Experimentation Network supports as many as 30,000 concurrent multicast streams with a mix of live video and virtual battle simulations for several users and events around the world. The Joint Training and Experimentation Network helps train combatant commands and services through live and virtual means. The Tactical Joint Training and Experimentation Network addresses live-asset training gaps by extending a strategic joint training network. This network links disparate aircrews located in a simulator with live, small-unit ground forces to rehearse joint tasks. The rapidly reconfigurable network supports joint training exercises, experimentation, and the evaluation of battle management concepts.

 

The cybersecurity engineer will work with a team of cybersecurity experts supporting the JTEN in the J7 Directorate. The cybersecurity specialist will be responsible for supporting ongoing cybersecurity maintenance tasks supporting the Joint Training and Engineering Network.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Use fortify and web inspect to evaluate code and offer remediation recommendations to programmers

  • Perform system hardening according to Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS)

  • Run ACAS scan on Linux systems

  • Create bash scripts to help perform everyday tasks more efficiently.

  • Create a draft Plan of Actions and Milestones (POAM). Requested ACAS scans on all the Linux servers.
     

Qualifications and Skills

  • Very strong experience with technical topics

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and enterprise architecture design

  • Working knowledge of artifacts used for cybersecurity risk assessment

  • Knowledge of programming concepts

  • Software language or scripting knowledge is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently

  • Experience interacting with DOD customers

  • Security+ or higher cybersecurity certification required.

  • 4 + Years of experience or B.S in related discipline
